Questioning, investigating, and collaborating are the skills that 21st-century learners must be equipped with. Inquiry-based learning, an educational approach, caters to all three of these skills. Learners are actively involved in their own learning process of constructing meaning from experiences. This approach is often hands-on and connects classroom learning to real-life experiences.

She has a bachelor’s degree in Textile Design from the National College of Arts, and an accredited certification – ICELT, in English language teaching from the University of Cambridge. Stress can be defined as a state of worry or mental tension caused by a difficult situation. It is a natural human response that prompts us to address challenges and threats in our lives. Managing stress involves learning skills such as problem-solving, focusing on important tasks first and managing one’s time. This workshop will focus on improving one’s ability to cope with difficult events that happen in life. It consists of a wide spectrum of techniques, aimed at controlling a person’s level of stress for the purpose of improving everyday functioning.

Channeling students’ innate curiosity and critical thinking can serve as effective catalysts for Engineering, Science and Mathematics concepts into tangible projects using technology. The goal of this workshop is to enable teachers to help students cultivate out of the box thinking and problem solving for deeper scientific inquiry.

Writing and reading skills in the early years play an important role in nurturing literacy development. They offer a multifaceted approach to enhancing emergent literacy, encompassing various aspects such as expressing ideas, refining fine motor skills, understanding print concepts, and fostering phonological awareness and phonics. Beginning from basic phonics, children progress to tracing and forming letters, expanding their vocabulary, and eventually mastering reading, writing, and comprehension. The workshop comprehensively guides participants through this developmental journey, providing practical samples of vocabulary and texts to facilitate effective learning and teaching.

  • enhance teachers’ capacity to foster emergent writing skills in young children
  • provide practical guidance on integrating phonological awareness and phonics instruction
  • scaffold children’s literacy development from foundational letter recognition to text comprehension

Workshop Leader: Ms Saira Shahab is a Ph.D. scholar from SEGI University, Malaysia. She has a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics-TESOL Studies from the University of Queensland, Australia, and another Master’s in Economics from the University of Karachi. She has also done an In-Service Certificate of English Language Teaching ICELT from the University of Cambridge, U.K. Along with her extensive work in educational development, gender-based educational and women empowerment programs are other areas in which her contributions have been substantial. She has written research papers on gender disparities, language development, non-formal education, and early childhood education in a span of a decade and still continues. She has developed language and literacy programs for learners of early years along with bi-scripted graded readers for struggling readers of the primary level.
