Thinking Classroom Resource pack

The Thinking Classroom Resource Pack

List of Resources in the Pack

The Table below lists only the resources that have been included in this Resource Pack. The name of the module, class level and lesson plan topic are given behind each resource to help you organise the pack after use.

For most of the lesson plans you will have to collect, assemble and organise various objects, small text/problem cards, get some stationery together and have some baskets/boxes handy to organise resources for groups of students to share and work with.

Some suggestions for math and art activity boxes are given below. If you start this collection at the beginning of the year you will find it very handy as you go along.

Put together a Math Activity Box

Young children need daily experiences of manipulating concrete material to understand abstract mathematical concepts, so a ready supply of materials is very handy. Find a large box or carton to store your materials in. Here are some suggestions to help you get started on your collection:

– Simple everyday concrete material such as, used pen caps, plastic bottle caps, ice cream sticks, pebbles, used invitation cards, old plastic spoons, recycled paper strips, used/old envelopes (of different sizes, colours & texture)

– Large beads of different colours

– Small beads of different colours

– Buttons of different colours

– Plastic or wooden blocks

– Different shape cutouts, such as, circle, square, oval, rectangle, and triangle

– Used pencils of different sizes

– Strings and shoelaces

– Sets of toy cars /animals (clay or plastic)

– Empty, used boxes in a variety of sizes

– Old calendars

Put together an Art Activity and Recycling Box

You don’t have to spend a lot of money for artwork. There are, however, some basic stationery supplies you will need. Assemble two boxes for your classroom. An Art Activity Box and a Recycling Box. You can request parents and community members to contribute to the Recycling Box. For example, tailors and carpenters and shopkeepers can give you bits and pieces that they generally throw away.

Look for a large box with a lid for your Art Activity Box and an old open carton will work fine for your Recycling Box. Here is a list to help you get started, you can add to this based on locally available material.

  • Art Activity Box

– Crayons, colour pencils, pencils, markers, chalk, charcoal, paintbrushes, old toothbrushes, old shaving brushes, powder paints, bits of sponge, old candles, different types of string, straws, ice cream sticks
