Teachers’ Resource Centre (TRC), the pioneer in introducing a curriculum and an institute (IECE) geared specifically to revolutionize and reform the way early childhood education (ECE) is approached in Pakistan, bid farewell to their third batch (2008 – 2009) on July 15, 2009.
The exhilaration, anticipation and empowerment were palpable, as these fresh graduates would now embark on exciting and fulfilling careers as professionally trained Early Childhood Educators.

Besides its revolutionary and out of the box thinking one of the reasons TRC is so successful in the education sector is due to its ability to view education as a unit regardless of whether it is the private or the public sector.? As a factor, this view has caused many of the ex students to volunteer to continue being involved in various capacities and help carry the TRC pedagogy forward, helping impact the sector as a whole.

The much awaited graduation ceremony for the third group took place at TRC on the eve of January 27, 2010 and, it was well worth the wait. A well-balanced mix of history, vision and humor, the evening was mainly led by TRC’s Director, Seema Malik.

The diversity, yet the unity of the batch was highlighted as former students pitched in anecdotes from their classrooms, reflected on the program, the imperative skills and knowledge they gained from it, plus video and digital images took the audience on a journey through the classrooms, personifying the impact on the students of the innovative teaching style.

The ceremony’s end saw Chief Guest, Mr. Aziz Memon, awarding the certificates to eager graduates and Ms. Mahtab Rashdi, Chairperson of the TRC – IECE, thanking participants for their attendance, congratulating the graduates and inviting guests for refreshments.

What”s been happening at The TRC-IECE
erm 1 of ECE-CP’s 2009-2010 session has almost come to an end. Our fourth cohort of students for this year draws from a diverse pool of both pre-service and in-service teachers. This combination of backgrounds has enriched discussions in the classroom and challenged the ECE-CP faculty to continually support engaging dialogue about issues and perspectives within ECE.

In Term 1, participants were enrolled in three courses; Child Development, The Learning Environment and Promoting Pro-social Behaviour – the triad of which establishes a meaningful foundation from which to explore equally pivotal areas of Play Experiences, Observation and Assessment, as well as the History and Philosophy of ECE in Term 2. The participants also completed field education placements and academic courses simultaneously – a requirement of ECE-CP At first, we werent sure if a lost file recovery was possible but we dismantled the drive and found that the platters were completely covered in the oil and the air filter was soaked completely. which continues throughout the year to facilitate integration of theory and practice.

We are now busy getting ready for the beginning of the next term which promises to excite and extend our learning within the field of ECE. Kudos to our participants for engaging with the course content so enthusiastically thus far and consistently introspecting about their teaching practices along the way. We look forward to welcoming them back next week.

On September 25th, 2009 – TRC’s Institute of Early Childhood Education buzzed with eagerness and inquisitiveness as our fourth cohort of students arrived for the ECE-CP (2009-2010) Orientation. Having already completed a busy first week of classes in Term 1, we thought we’d bring you up to speed on what we’ve been upto.
Orientation provided participants the opportunity to become familiarized with the specifics of ECE-CP, through an informal question and answer dialogue with the Academic Coordinator and faculty members. The discussion was interactive and students walked out feeling a lot more secure and comfortable with what lay ahead.

This year, we also conducted a short module on “Study Skills” for the benefit of our students. An overview of useful strategies in reading and writing was provided, to facilitate more meaningful engagement with the readings and assignments students will be completing over the coming year. A first time endeavour, the feedback was positive and we look forward to seeing how the “Study Skills” module enhances participants’ learning experiences throughout the course.

The first week of classes is always both exciting and challenging. Both feelings come from curiosity about the unknown and our students have displayed remarkable energy in keeping up with the potentially dizzying pace of this initial week! We wish them the absolute best for the weeks to come.

This year has brought together a diverse group of students, from both pre-service and in-service backgrounds. Of particular note has been the jump in enrollments from individuals seeking to complete the course before stepping into their first ‘formal’ classroom. This is especially encouraging because it represents a pivotal shift in people’s attitudes towards ECE and the need for professional development. A wonderful note to begin a new year of ECE-CP on

On October 06, 2008 – TRC’s Institute of Early Childhood Education buzzed with anticipation and curiosity as our third cohort of students arrived for the ECE-CP (2008-2009) Orientation. Our enrollment has jumped dramatically this year, following smaller groups of 7 full-time and then 9 full-time, 2 part-time students in the first two years.  While enrollments were intentionally limited in the formative years of the programme, this year, we felt confident that a much larger group could be accommodated. This year has brought together a diverse group of 18 students, from both pre-service and in-service as well as public and private school backgrounds.
Through an informal question and answer dialogue with the programme coordinator and faculty members, students were familiarized with programme specifics. The discussion was interactive and students walked out feeling a lot more secure and comfortable with what lies ahead.
