A warm and responsive classroom culture is essential because, like all of us, students need to feel safe and valued in order to thrive. When that sense of belonging is there, children throw themselves into the learning environment. Creating this kind of classroom culture is to focus on setting expectations and routines that are designed to foster relationships and a sense of safety and belonging. This workshop will focus on the importance of maintaining a friendly learning environment in the classroom and strategies to make that happen.

Workshop Leader:

Ms. Rubina Naqvi has B.Sc / B.Ed degrees from Karachi University. She is an accredited trainer and holds a Diploma in Professional Studies from University of Bradford, UK. She brings with her 42 years of experience in the field of education which includes teaching, training teachers, and school management. Currently she is a member of the Training and Development Team at TRC and is working in the capacity of Senior Manager, Membership Network since the last 18 years.

Project-based learning is an important instructional method that provides children with the opportunities to develop knowledge and skills through active engagement in challenging projects. PBL focuses on imparting specific knowledge and skills while inspiring students to question actively, think critically and draw connections between their studies and the real world. This workshop will focus on the basics of PBL and ways to implement this method in the classroom.

Workshop Leader:

Ms. Tabinda Jabeen has 20 years of professional experience as a teacher and teacher educator. She is an early childhood education and development expert who has been designing and conducting teachers’ trainings for the last 12 years in both the public and private sectors. At TRC, Tabinda has been involved with multi stakeholder ECE projects at both provincial and national levels. Her areas of expertise include training design, learning material development, monitoring and classroom support and research.

For language learners, it is important to realise that active, empathetic listening plays a crucial role in good communication. By tuning into others, the learners avert misunderstandings and mistakes and they are able to receive the correct information, respond appropriately and therefore strengthen their relationships. Because listening skill is not taught to the learners, they do not listen effectively. They have been taught how to read, write, and speak, but listening remains a denied skill. The good news is that listening skills can be learned, practiced, and mastered. Let us learn how listening skills could be developed through interactive activities.

Workshop Leader:

Ms. Saira Shahab is a Ph.D. scholar from SEGI University, Malaysia. She has a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics-TESOL Studies from the University of Queensland, Australia, and another Master’s in Economics from the University of Karachi. She has also done an In-Service Certificate of English Language Teaching ICELT from the University of Cambridge, .K. Along with her extensive work in educational development, gender-based educational and women empowerment programs are other areas in which her contributions have been substantial. She has written research papers on gender disparities, language development, non-formal education, and early childhood education in a span of a decade and still continues. She has developed language and literacy programs for learners of early years along with bi-scripted graded readers for struggling readers of the primary level.

Ms. Sonia Iqbal has 13 years of experience in working with developing skills in students at all levels of achievement in public and private sector schools.  Along with teaching English and Science, she has also worked in the capacity of an assistant editor and as a freelance content writer for distinctive magazines and newspapers. Currently she is working as a member of the Training and Development team at TRC.

Listening is the gateway to understanding and communicating, therefore is absolutely critical for language learners. Once listening is in place, speaking automatically follows. Hence, bringing these two language skills into the classroom is of utmost significance.

Workshop Leader:

Ms. Misbah Karamat comes from a diverse educational and professional background. She has a bachelor’s degree in Textile Design from the National College of Arts, and an accredited certification – ICELT, in English language teaching from the University of Cambridge. She has worked at different educational institutions across Pakistan, and brings with her teaching experience in various subjects at primary and secondary levels.

Math anxiety and fear can cause hurdles in the pursuit of mathematics. Knowledge of math facts is important and children learn math best when they work on problems that they enjoy, rather than doing exercises with fear. According to educators and researchers, the best way for children to understand math concepts and facts, is by using concrete material and hands-on activities. Although there are multiple strategies used in teaching mathematics, the combination of concrete material and fun play a crucial role in the effective teaching and learning process. Once you show children how much fun math can be, they will gain enthusiasm about learning that you can apply to other subjects.

Ms. Sadia Anwer is in the field of education for the past 12 years. She has been a senior teacher of secondary level for more than seven years and has special interest in Mathematics. Sadia is a TRC qualified early childhood educator and has rich experience of training teachers and designing classroom resources, especially for under resourced schools. She works at TRC as a member of the Training and Development Team.
