Developmentally appropriate practices are methods that promote each child’s optimal development and learning through a strength-based and play-based approach to joyful, engaged learning. Young children need developmentally appropriate experiences and teaching to support learning. Therefore, all teachers and caregivers working with young children have the responsibility to seek out and intentionally plan the best opportunities for children that support their over-all well being and healthy development.

Workshop Leader:

Ms. Tabinda Jabeen has 20 years of professional experience as a teacher and teacher educator. She is an early childhood education and development expert who has been designing and conducting teachers’ trainings for the last 12 years in both the public and private sectors. At TRC, Tabinda has been involved with multi stakeholder ECE projects at both provincial and national levels. Her areas of expertise include training design, learning material development, monitoring and classroom support and research.

Classroom management refers to the wide variety of skills and techniques that teachers use to keep students organised, orderly and attentive on task during a class. This workshop will focus on creating a conductive environment to promote positive learning.

Workshop Leader:

Ms. Rubina Naqvi has B.Sc / B.Ed degrees from Karachi University. She is an accredited trainer and holds a Diploma in Professional Studies from University of Bradford, UK. She brings with her 40 years of experience in the field of education which includes teaching, training teachers, and school management. Currently she is a member of the Training and Development Team at TRC and is working in the capacity of Senior Manager, Membership Network since the last 19 years.

Higher-order thinking skills are thought processes that help us connect information in meaningful ways and use those connections to solve problems. Basic skills like memorisation and observation of facts are essential to learning. Teachers can challenge their students by developing their higher-order thinking skills. Understanding how to cultivate these skills allows students to participate in advanced learning, become independent thinkers and solve problems on their own.

• design activities to incorporate higher order thinking skills into lesson plans

Workshop Leader:

Ms. Misbah Karamat comes from a diverse educational and professional background. She has a bachelor’s degree in Textile Design from the National College of Arts, and an accredited certification – ICELT, in English language teaching from the University of Cambridge. She has worked at different educational institutions across Pakistan, and brings with her teaching experience in various subjects at primary and secondary levels.
