As more and more schools are accommodating children with special needs in the mainstream classrooms, it is important for the teachers to understand the concept of Inclusive Education. This workshop will make the participants aware of effective practices and attitudes that will help them meet the objectives.

Objectives

Through this workshop, participants will:

  • become aware of the concept of Inclusive Education and its benefits for ALL children in mainstream schools
  • discover that Inclusive Education can be a route to school improvement and teacher’s professional development
  • explore ways to achieve Inclusive Education in the Pakistani context through the example of a current Action Research project, and through hands-on activities

Workshop Leader

Dr. Debbie Kramer – Roy and her team members Megan Goth, Louisa Curchod, Denise Hashim, Sanam Abdul Hameed, Sunaina Liaquat, Samreen Javed and Naureen Javed Hirani. Dr. Debbie Kramer – Roy is a Dutch Occupational Therapist, who has worked in the UK (18 years) and Pakistan (9 years) for most of her career so far. In Pakistan she has worked with disabled children and their families in low-income communities, and later worked as faculty member at the AKU-IED, developing the Inclusive Education programme. Debbie’s PhD research consisted of a Participatory Action Research study, exploring the support needs of Pakistani families with disabled children in the UK. Debbie is currently a faculty member of the Occupational Therapy division at Brunel University London. She leads an Action Research project in partnership with the Occupational Therapy School at Dow University of Health Sciences and The AMI School, Karachi.
