TRC is known for supporting pioneering ideas and initiatives for teachers and students. In 2011 when we were approached by the Lahore-based NGO, The Little Art, for a children’s film festival, the project piqued our interest. The result is the Karachi International Children’s Film Festival (KICFF), which is a sister event of its predecessor the Lahore International Children’s Film Festival (LICFF). Little Art has been organising the LICFF successfully since 2007, and the event is the first and largest film festival of its kind in Pakistan.

Over the years, the LICFF, and now the KICFF, has reached out to young people, parents and teachers with a slew of some of the world’s best films that have been made for children and young people. Since the inception of the festival, the number of films has grown as has the scale of the event. These unique films, which include both live action and animated films are educational and entertaining and provide children a fun and meaningful break from a regular school day.

In Karachi, TRC and T2F have collaborated with The Little Art to organise the festival. From a painstaking selection process to determine the appropriateness of a film’s content for a young audience, to involving the city’s schools, and managing the event, TRC and T2F are closely involved in the event which is driven by the belief that film is a rare medium that can combine wholesome fun and quality learning.
