Developmentally Appropriate Practice refers to applying child development knowledge in making thoughtful decision on what and how to teach effectively in the early years. Developmentally appropriate practice matches teaching and learning practices to children’s ability to learn and understand. This means that developmentally appropriate practice is based on what is currently known and understood about children’s developmental patterns.

Objectives

Through this workshop, participants will:

  • describe the essential components of developmentally appropriate practice
  • explore developmentally appropriate versus inappropriate practice

Workshop Leader

Ms. Noshin Khan brings with her a B.A degree in Early Childhood Education & M.A degree with a major in Early Childhood Education from Ryerson University, Canada. She has been teaching the degree and diploma programme in Early Childhood Education at two educational institutions, Sheridan College and Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada since 2012. She has a sound academic background and teaching expertise in the area of Early Childhood Education and Primary School teaching. She also has eight years of experience as a teacher/coordinator at a private school in Karachi. She is currently working at TRC as Senior Manager and faculty of the Early Childhood Education and Development Programme.
