Children who hear more words learn more words and have a better vocabulary. Early Years’ Teachers play a pivotal role in developing the language skills that pay off exponentially as the child progresses through school. This two-day workshop will focus on language development in Early Years, exploring classroom language activities, games, read aloud, prompts and story telling techniques.

Objectives

Through this workshop, participants will:

  • understand the connection between vocabulary, knowledge and literacy
  • foster emergent literacy skills by making print TALK in the classroom
  • promote children’s language development using activities and interactive strategies
  • apply vocabulary building strategies in book reading and in meaningful conversations

Workshop Leader

Ms. Fatima Obaid has done her Masters in Education with honours with a major in Educational Leadership and Management from AKU-IED. She has also received a Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Development. Her career spans 25 years during which she has served as a teacher, Vice Principal and Head of Academics of the Elementary level at a leading private school system in Karachi. As a leader and a trainer, she has conducted various courses, seminars and workshops over the years for elementary teachers. At present she works as a freelance consultant and trainer for schools.
