Developmentally appropriate practice (DAP), is an approach to teaching grounded in the research on how young children develop and learn. Its framework is designed to promote young children’s optimal learning and development. This workshop will help learners understand what research says about development, learning, and effective practices in ECE and how DAP articulates the principles that should guide our decision making when working with children between 0-8 years.

Objectives

Through this workshop, participants will:

  • understand the core components of DAP
  • become aware of Developmentally Appropriate Practices in Early Childhood
  • plan DAP activities to promote learning in the key areas of the ECE Curriculum
  • learn to apply theory when making decisions in day-to-day practices

Workshop Leader

Ms. Sadiya Azeem Durrani brings with her a Masters’ Degree in Educational Leadership from Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, and a Masters’ Degree in International Relations from the University of Karachi. Her professional experience spans over 15 years, which includes conducting numerous workshops for pedagogical improvement of private as well progressive public schools. Her focus area is professionalizing teaching and leadership at school level with an expertise in Early Childhood Education & Educational Leadership. Currently Sadiya is teaching as an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership at SZABIST University and also works as a training consultant with The British Council of Pakistan.
