Questioning is one of the most extensively researched areas because of its central importance in the teaching and learning process. Effectively designed questions promote critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills in the students. This workshop is designed to provide an opportunity for teachers to reflect and design effective questions for science lessons.

Objectives

Through this workshop, participants will:

  • understand the importance of questioning in promoting learning
  • explore the different kinds of questions
  • develop questioning techniques that will challenge pupils’ thinking
  • design assessments that will test pupils’ understanding
  • help students become critical thinkers by applying, analysing, synthesising, and evaluating their knowledge

Workshop Leader
Ms. Saman Ali Jafri holds a masters degree in Biochemistry and brings with her 11 years of experience in teaching senior students as well as in the professional development of teachers. During her career in education, she has also participated in science exhibitions, projects and other science related activities. Currently she is teaching O Level Chemistry and is also the Dean of the Chemistry Department since 7 years at The Mama Parsi Girls’ Secondary School.
