Research has proved that the first six to eight years of life are important to gain early experiences in mathematics. All children can learn mathematics if it is taught in an enjoyable manner. It involves the development of the cognitive, affective and the psychomotor domains. By creating a student-centered, positive math learning environment, the teachers can enhance students’ mathematical skills. This workshop will provide ideas to create such an environment.

Objectives

Through this workshop, participants will:

  • identify practices and factors that contribute towards building a motivating math classroom culture
  • explore innovative strategies to create positive learning math environment in the classroom
  • discuss possible solutions for some of the problems faced by teachers in maintaining a positive math learning environment
  • develop ways to teach mathematics through games and activities
  • inculcate values and morals through teaching mathematics

Workshop Leader
Ms. Victoria Joseph has done her B.Ed and M.Ed from Notre Dame Institute of Education and Masters in Educational Leadership and Management from SZABIST, Karachi. She is a research scholar and her area of interest and expertise include curriculum development, role of women, gender issues, learning styles, educational psychology, formative assessment and mathematics. She brings with her 16 years of teaching experience and has worked in selecting and implementing math topics for students. She is currently working as a professional development trainer and is involved in supervising and conducting various sessions.
