This 24-hr course will focus on the selection, value and meaningful use of books as a medium for learning across the curriculum.

Objectives
Through this course, participants will:

  • understand the importance of literature for children
  • develop guidelines for the selection of quality books for children
  • become aware of influences on readers’ interests
  • appreciate the broad spectrum of genres within childrens’ literature
  • explore ideas for sharing literature with children
  • discover a variety of methods for extending children’s understanding of literature

Workshop Leader
Ms. Nida Alavi has an M.Ed in Special Education from Peabody College, Vanderbilt University and a B.A. degree from Ohio Wesleyan University, USA, where she majored in Early Childhood Education and Psychology. Nida has worked extensively with young children in the US and Pakistan. She is a member of the TRC team and IECE faculty.
