The effective management of learning depends on the teacher’s ability to monitor and assess children’s progress. The judgements we make affect the life chances of the students. This workshop will focus on ways to equip teachers with the tools to assess students and will provide an opportunity for participants to create and incorporate both formative and summative methods in their day-to-day lessons.

Objectives

Through this workshop, participants will:

  • understand the concept and advantages of formative and summative assessments
  • learn how to assess students using research-based formative strategies
  • explore ways to record and analyse formative assessment data to inform teaching and learning
  • highlight the use of and the ways of developing rubrics for both formative and summative purposes
  • create authentic summative assessments that provide evidence of students’ learning

Workshop Leader
Ms. Uzma Shabbir brings with her an experience of 22 years in teaching English Language and Literature at the secondary level. In addition to that, she has also worked in Curriculum Development and Teacher Training and Support in the capacity of an Academic Coordinator. She is currently teaching English Literature to O Level students at Haque Academy.
